The Future of Food with Catherine Joy White

The Future of Food with Catherine Joy White

Writer, activist, and filmmaker, Catherine Joy White, will deep-dive into our complex relationship with food on a global scale – from a means to assert ownership of the world to an indispensable tactic of civil rights movements.

Honoured as a member of the Forbes Under 30 list, long-listed for AllBright’s ‘Innovative Trailblazer Award’, and heralded as one of ‘Five Activists Who Should Be On Your Radar’, Catherine has blazed the trail of progress. She now celebrates the first instalment in a writing series, On the Future of Food, that asks writers to explore their vision of a radical, hopeful future, and shares her expertise with us.

As a United Nations advisor, Catherine has championed food’s cultural, social, personal, and political significance, framing it as both a foundation of life and a cornerstone of community.

Bringing her vision to the forefront, she challenges us to reimagine food in a way that acknowledges how past practices inform our future needs. She will examine the systems that have allowed food, a fundamental human right many go without, to become entrenched within our hierarchical structures.

Tackling issues of food poverty and its intersections with gender, a growing disconnect with the natural world, and misconceptions of disordered eating, Catherine will show that with hope and knowledge, we can do better.
